Vietnam Manpower Expands Opportunities for Workers Abroad

The demand for Vietnamese workers abroad is expanding, with several Eastern European countries expressing interest in hiring staff from Vietnam. Pham Viet Huong, Deputy Director of the Overseas Labour Management Department, highlighted that in addition to traditional markets like Japan, Taiwan (China), and South Korea, countries such as Romania, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Serbia are increasingly seeking Vietnamese labor.

Vietnamese workers are employed in various sectors, including mechanical engineering, textiles, electronics assembly, construction, agriculture, healthcare, and elderly care, and enjoy favorable working conditions with benefits. Their monthly incomes vary depending on the region, ranging from $500 to $1,600, with the highest earnings in Japan and South Korea.

Japan has remained the top destination for Vietnamese workers, with Vietnam surpassing China to become Japan’s largest group of foreign workers by 2023. In June 2024, Vietnam and Japan signed an agreement to increase the number of technical intern trainees, aiming for 500 trainees over the next five years.

In South Korea, the number of Vietnamese applicants for the Employment Permit System (EPS) reached a record high, with nearly 45,000 applications in 2024.

With over 600,000 Vietnamese workers employed across 50 countries and territories, contributing approximately $4 billion annually, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs plans to further explore European markets due to their favorable working conditions. In the first half of 2024, more than 78,640 Vietnamese workers were employed abroad, achieving 62.91% of the annual target.

Vietnam Manpower continues to play a key role in opening up new opportunities for Vietnamese workers abroad, particularly in Eastern Europe and other emerging markets.
