Vietnamese Workers Have Many Advantages When Working in Japan
This is the opinion of Mrs. Yamada Rei, project coordinator and partnership development officer at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), regarding Vietnamese workers.
At the "Maximizing the Labor Force for Overseas Work" seminar, organized by the People's Committee of Dong Thap Province in collaboration with Lao Dong Newspaper on August 9, reporters had the opportunity to briefly interview Mrs. Yamada Rei.
Mrs. Yamada Rei shared that she and her colleagues are currently implementing the "Employment Information Connection Support Project" for Vietnamese workers going abroad under contract. This project is being carried out by the Department of Overseas Labor Management (DOLAB), the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs of Vietnam (MOLISA), and JICA.
"Our project is expected to last for five years and is a technical assistance project. We aim to provide a safe and secure working environment for Vietnamese workers abroad. Based on the knowledge and skills they acquire, we hope they will return to contribute to Vietnam's economic development," said Mrs. Yamada Rei.
The project is designed with three main objectives:
- Establishing a new system to provide employment information for Vietnamese workers.
- Promoting the activities of sending agencies and recruitment companies.
- Offering support for Vietnamese workers after returning home from working abroad.
Through her interactions with Vietnamese workers, Mrs. Yamada Rei observed, "Vietnamese workers share many similar traits and skills with Japanese people. For example, they respect the elderly, work diligently, and excel at detailed, meticulous tasks. I believe Vietnamese workers have many advantages when they work in Japan, and this experience helps them return home, start their own businesses, and improve their lives and the lives of their families."
According to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, there are currently about 500,000 Vietnamese workers in Japan under various programs, including:
- Technical Intern Training Program
- Specified Skilled Workers (SSW)
- Caregiver programs under the Vietnam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA)
- Technicians and interpreters
Vietnam is the leading country among 15 nations sending trainees and workers to Japan. Last year, a record high of 85,000 Vietnamese workers went to Japan, marking the highest number ever.
