Wide Opportunities for Laborers from Ninh Binh to Work in South Korea
The People's Committee of Ninh Binh Province and Asan City (South Korea) have signed a Cooperation Agreement regarding the dispatch and reception of seasonal workers to South Korea.
The program aims to send between 50 and 100 workers from Ninh Binh to Asan (South Korea) every year.
Since 2018, the South Korean government has allowed localities in the country to recruit foreign workers to address labor shortages during peak seasons in agriculture and fisheries. This program is implemented through a partnership between one South Korean locality and one Vietnamese locality to recruit laborers.
In Ninh Binh, since 2015, the provincial People's Committee has signed a Friendship and Cooperation Agreement with Asan City, Chungcheongnam Province (South Korea). As a result, there have been various cooperation activities, exchanges, and collaborations in fields such as industry, culture, and labor. Notably, in July of this year, both sides signed a cooperation agreement for the dispatch and reception of seasonal workers to South Korea. The selection quota is between 50 and 100 workers annually.
Mr. Tống Quang Thìn, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ninh Binh Province, shared that the conditions for seasonal work in South Korea are relatively simple. Eligible workers must be Vietnamese citizens who have resided in Ninh Binh for at least 12 months and are currently employed in the agriculture sector. The age range for applicants is from 30 to under 50 years. They must have full legal capacity, no criminal record, and no travel restrictions or pending deportation according to Vietnamese law. Applicants must also be in good health to work abroad.
Workers will be paid the South Korean minimum wage, which is at least 2,050,880 won per month (approximately 39 million VND). In addition, workers will enjoy benefits including working hours, rest periods, accommodation, food, insurance, and medical care as stipulated by South Korean regulations. Workers are expected to follow the guidelines of the sending localities and adhere to the legal requirements of the host country. They must return to Vietnam after completing their contracts, allowing them to potentially reapply for future work opportunities.
“With a quick procedure, low costs, extended age range, no high requirements for vocational training or foreign language skills, simple agricultural work, short deployment times (90 days for a C-4 visa or 5 months for an E-8 visa), and relatively high income, this seasonal labor program in South Korea offers several advantages,” Mr. Thìn said.
According to Mr. Tống Quang Thìn, the successful implementation of the seasonal labor program in Asan (South Korea) will bring significant benefits. In addition to creating jobs and increasing income, this will also provide Ninh Binh workers with the opportunity to learn and apply advanced production and business technologies, particularly in South Korea’s agricultural sector. This will contribute to the economic development and strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two regions.
