South Korea Lifts Ban on Labor Import, Golden Opportunity for Nghe An Workers

Workers in three districts and towns in Nghe An province will be eligible to participate in the first round of the 2024 South Korea labor selection exam.

According to information from the Overseas Labor Center (Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs), the labor selection process for South Korea in the first round of 2024 will take place nationwide, without the temporary suspension measures that were previously applied in certain localities, except for some specialized sectors such as agriculture and fisheries.

The first labor selection exam for South Korea in 2024 is expected to recruit 15,400 workers across five industries.

The localities that had previously been suspended from recruitment but are now eligible to participate again include: Nghi Xuan and Cam Xuyen districts (Ha Tinh), Chi Linh City (Hai Duong), Dong Son and Hoang Hoa districts (Thanh Hoa), and the towns of Cua Lo, Nghi Loc, and Hung Nguyen (Nghe An).

On January 9, in an interview with reporters, Mr. Trần Phi Hùng, Head of the Employment and Labor Safety Department at Nghe An’s Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, shared: “With South Korea lifting the labor ban on three districts and towns in our province, workers in these areas now have the opportunity to work abroad in South Korea after years of being excluded.

We have sent notifications about this change to the localities and will organize communication activities to inform the people, ensuring they can register in the upcoming exam.”

According to preliminary statistics, around 1,500 workers from Cua Lo Town, Nghi Loc District, and Hung Nguyen District have registered to take the Korean language exam for the first round in 2024, which will take place from January 26 to January 30.

Mr. Nguyễn Hữu Hà, Vice Chairman of Hung Nguyen District People’s Committee, stated that after receiving the news of the lifted ban from South Korea, the district has widely informed the public and encouraged them to register.

“This is great news for local workers,” said Mr. Hà.

In Nghi Loc and Cua Lo, local leaders confirmed that they had received the information and are disseminating it to the grassroots level.

“For many years, the local authorities have actively encouraged workers to return home after their contracts end and not stay illegally abroad. As a result, the situation has seen significant improvement,” said Mr. Hoàng Văn Phúc, Vice Chairman of Cua Lo Town People’s Committee.

In 2023, Nghe An was recognized as the leading province in Vietnam for the number of workers going abroad, with around 24,000 people leaving to work in foreign countries.

Summary:
With South Korea lifting the ban on labor import from several districts in Nghe An, workers in these areas now have a golden opportunity to participate in the upcoming labor selection exam for the first time in years. Vietnam Manpower from Nghe An continues to be a driving force for labor export, with the province ranking as the top exporter of workers in Vietnam in 2023, sending approximately 24,000 individuals abroad for work.
